“Creativity is intelligence having fun.”
I have always been the kind of person to strive to grow – do better than what you are doing right now. This trait of mine brought me to many places and one recent place to a “tea party”. You got to drag me off my couch to attend any tea party because I am just not classy like that (really!). However, this was such event that I would never want to miss because: 1) I want to be a better blogger 2) I love exploring my own creativity 3) Parties organized by Mamasan a.k.a Tammy is da bomb.
Where did this happen?
Glasshouse. No, I am not kidding but this event did happen in a Glasshouse which happens to be located quite close to where I stay. And, I had no idea about it! This might sound a little melodramatic – but honestly, I fell in love with the place the moment I got off the car. It is really beautiful and after a little research – I found out that this place is quite famous among couples as a wedding venue. I might consider that too – and I think you might too. This glasshouse located in Seputeh and I’ll be sharing the link at the end of this article.
Butterfly Flay Lay Tea Party – 2019
If you don’t know what a flat lay is, let me explain a little more for you. It is a picture taken from a birds-eye view of a collection of items laid out on a flat surface. Usually, there will be one item that is the main focus of the shot known as the golden object, while all the other items in the flatlay are there to compliment the centerpiece. Interesting isn’t it?
I’ve been doing it for years – but the wrong way. There is always a learning point and you see your mistakes then improve it. This tea party was such an experience for me, and a special one as we are mentored by the ever-gorgeous and friendly, Azrin Aidil!
When Mamasan announced that there will be a tea party involving some beautiful elements like china set, flowers, and pastries, I did not know that she was also talking about a flay layerist that is not only beautiful but has a colossal amount of creativity. Don’t believe me? Check out some of her picture below.
The event started with a little introduction from our very own, Tammy Lim. It is always a delight to see her talk because she has a very warm yet strong charisma to her. This inspires me in the case I would like to give a speech or just be an emcee in future. It is important to carry one’s self in the public’s eye, right? Now back to our event, after the introduction started, Miss Azrin came into action – I was overwhelmed with joy because I’ve been stalking her for sometime and knowing that she is going to guide us through some really important process of flay lay, is nothing but exciting!
There are a lot of tips that Miss Azrin shared which not only cheap but also sustainable. To be honest, as much we would like to invest on props to make our photos look prettier, we wouldn’t want to spend a fortune on things that might end up in the trash bin. At least, I feel it that way.
- You can actually purchase manila cards and make it as the background ( and also as a reflector, how cool is that? )
- Use everyday products as props – it can be utensils, cookies, tea – well just anything.
- The key is to ensure the lighting is good – so if you going to invest on something, then go for this.
That is something that might not have come across my mind because I always thought you need something really fancy to make the flat lay pictures to look Instagram worthy.
Also, Miss Azrin was kind enough to share some really good tips which I will share with you guys. Checkout Azrin’s seven secrets to a beautiful flat lay picture.
A little bit more on the event..
I have to be honest that this is definitely one of the prettiest event I have ever attended. From the location to the cafe and the decoration – everything is minimal yet very beautiful. My favorite is definitely the pastry table – I mean who wouldn’t right? Not a sweet tooth but the colors are so attractive , but sad enough I didn’t had a chance to click a picture **a solo one** at that section.
Lets get to the best part. We had a mini group of 5’s consist of 3 of us and we had a little experiment time where we had to choose props and create a beautiful flat lay out of it. My team is the “3 Layerist” , made up of myself, Niraa and Safina. A quick fun fact of our group – we are all lionesses (our sun sign is LEO). I’ve known Niraa for sometime now, while Safina is a new found friend but we clicked immediately – it was FUN! Check out our flay lay display as below :
It was definitely an event filled with information – sharing every bit of of what we know from each one of us. To be honest, all of them were really good and I didn’t only learn from Miss Azrin alone, but the watching everyone else doing was also a learning process. So, I got to shout out my huge GRATITUDE to Mamasan, aka Tammy for selecting me as part of the 15 lucky bloggers selected. It was really a priceless experience that will be useful for lifetime. Also not to forget, the pastries and coffee were just too delicious.
I am also going to take this opportunity to thank all of them who had worked hard to ensure we had the best time ( educational one , yeah !)
- Butterfly Project https://www.instagram.com/butterflyproject.my/www.butterflyproject.my for organizing & sponsoring the tea time – and for always making us feel special.
- Teacher Azrin from https://www.instagram.com/_from_the_top/ flatlay teacher and bringing her props for the lessons – and for being a sweetheart.
- Emi Goto from https://www.instagram.com/avantgardeblooms/ for the beautiful flowers for the decoration and to be used for the flat lays plus her information on the type of flowers.
- Althea Korea from https://www.instagram.com/altheakorea/ www.althea.kr sponsoring goodie bags & prizes for the workshop. BTW, someone accidentally took my masks and they were kind enough to give me a new set. Cool huh?
I hope that Butterfly Project will always come up with these creative and awesome projects that will be a huge help to all the butterflies which will help them to grow further in what they are passionate about – blogging !
Well, that is for now, Till next time – toodles !
